Wish List Wednesday: Fabulous Cardigan Alert

7 Apr

Trina Turk 'Novella' Cardigan, Nordstrom, $228

Cardigan lovers, behold and drool!  This Trina Turk cardigan rocks!  We loooove cardigans and this one is sooooo lust-worthy.  We probably have more cardigans in our wardrobe than we do black dresses and suits combined (which is saying a lot).

Cardigans are just the best item for layering, especially on days like today when the temps outside are in the 80s, but the air conditioning inside has converted your office to a meat locker.   Too, cardigans help you stretch your wardrobe a bit.  You can throw on a cardigan with that tired, old black dress or skirt that you wear all the time and it makes it look fresh and new.

When we saw the Trina Turk cardigan pictured above, it was immediately added to our wish list!  It is a beautiful spring/summer color (although for the color-avoidant among us, it also comes in ivory with a navy trim).  We admit that the color is a bit daring for a conservative office, but with other conservative pieces, it could work, especially for a Casual Friday.  A navy pair of slacks or skirt would pair nicely with it.

We’ll just add this right next to the other Trina Turk item on our wish list – just can’t seem to justify a bright yellow dress for work, but we are in absolute lust with this Trina Turk ‘Etiquette’ Dress in the color Sunshine, featured by Corporette a few weeks ago.  Our Spring wish list just keeps getting longer and longer <sigh>…

Go Green! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

17 Mar

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  Are you wearing your green today?  With the first day of Spring just a few days away, we are thrilled to see so many shades of green all around us!  As much as we loathed winter this year (ugh, Snowpocalypse will forever be ingrained in our memory!), we are welcoming in the warmer temps, softer colors and sunshine with open arms!  Buh-bye, Old Man Winter!   Hello, Springtime!

Green is a color that reminds us to be environmentally responsible, but it is also a color that symbolizes energy and revitalization.  It is a quite refreshing hue.  As the grass begins to turn green, we’re more than happy to add some more green to our wardrobe!  We wanted to share some of our fave green lust-worthy items with you in honor of St. Patrick’s Day!  Enjoy!

We started with the Alexander McQueen skull scarf pictured above in green & purple (AlexanderMcQueen.com, $260) (not sure whether the skull motif can pass as work-appropriate on a day other than Casual Friday, but we just had to include this scarf anyway!  May Mr. McQueen rest in peace.)

The necklace below could add just the right touch of color to an otherwise boring work outift.

Anthology Necklace in Green Howlite, Nordstrom, $45

We’re always looking for interesting belts and think this one definitely fits the bill.  With a white blouse and navy skirt, it might just be work-appropriate, especially on a casual Friday or a meeting-free day.

Maru sash, Anthropologie, $38

The dress below is arguably a bluish-green, but the description used with it calls it green, so we’re going with that!  Love it!  We’d have to check out the measurements to see where this would fall on us.  The slit may make it not so work-appropriate if the hem is not long enough, but it’s still a beauty (although definitely not in our budget, we can still appreciate its beauty).

Giambattista Valli Silk Dress, MyTheresa.com, $2,245+

For those who love to splurge, we could not stop daydreaming about this to-die-for Lanvin tote (a  splurge with a hefty price tag of $1,575).  And this  lime Ralph Lauren cardigan has been marked down from $740 to $370.

Also, more options in green for the budget conscious…we like these sheath dresses at The Limited ($79.50) and J. Crew (now $180, was $225).

There you have it – more items to be added to our (and perhaps your) neverending wish list!  So go revitalize your wardrobe with some green for Spring, ladies!

Monday’s Must-Have: The Timeless Trench

8 Mar

Jil Sander Trench Coat, Net-a-Porter.com, $1,895

We are soooooo thrilled that the trench coat is a timeless piece.  What we adore about this season’s trench is that it comes in vibrant colors.  After experiencing Snowpocalypse 2010 and alternating between charcoal grey, dark brown, and plain ole black coats for most of the winter, we can’t wait to put on some springtime color!  No better way to usher color into your career wardrobe than in your outerwear.  You can flirt with color a little more in your selection of outerwear than you can with other pieces because you take coats and other outerwear off before starting a meeting or hearing.  So show a bit of your creative side!  Pick a conservatively cut trench coat in a bold, express-yourself color!  Here are some of the head-turning colors we’ve seen in trenches for the season:

Burberry Ruffled Trench, Nordstrom, $795.00

Bottega Veneta, Net-a-Porter.com, $1,100

Below are some more budget-conscious picks:

Michael Kors Trench, Nordstrom, $138

Impermeable Platinum by Weatherproof, Nordstrom, $98

Old Navy Trench, $49.50

And for the wild ones among us, here’s a zebra print Lauren by Ralph Lauren for ya ($199 at both Lord & Taylor and Macy’s)!   (While we might not be bold enough to wear this one to work, we’re seriously considering it for non-work outfits.  Cute, cute!  Would definitely want to try it on first though since prints like this one aren’t always the most flattering to all body types.)

Is Gray the New Black for Spring 2010?

25 Feb

Eva Longoria in her shades of gray

Gray is a staple color in most professional wardrobes.  That’s why it’s quite refreshing to hear that gray is an “it” color for Spring 2010.  Finally, a runway trend that we can wear to the office without hesitation.

We are inspired by the way celebrity Eva Longoria Parker has incorporated two different shades of gray into her look (pictured above).  If her outfit were a wee bit roomier and had a bit more sleeve, we might be able to wear it to the office.  (While we want our clothes to be tailored and to fit properly, we do not want them so tight that they  scream “Look at me, I’m hot!”  “Hot” is not corner office appropriate – at all.  You want your boss and colleagues to be floored by your analytical skills, not by your curves.  Save your “hot” looks for nights and weekends.)

For your viewing pleasure, here are a few items in gray that we’ve been eyeing for our Spring wardrobes.  😉

Classiques Entier 'Heathrow' Dress, Nordstrom, now $135.90, regularly $228

Tory Burch 'Reva' python flats, Net-a-porter.com, $235

Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini, RebeccaMinkoff.com, $550

Cardigan w/ embellishment, Anthropologie, $88

Kate Spade 'Susie' pumps, Footcandy.com, now $162.50, regularly $325

Eye Candy for Suit Lovers

21 Feb

To provide our readers with a little office chic mojo, we’ll be sharing with you work-appropriate, lust-worthy pieces that we admire. We’ll post at least one splurge and one budget piece each week.

For example, we love this Classiques Entier suit found at Nordstrom ($268 for the jacket and $158 for the pants). Unfortunately, this suit doesn’t quite make it to the splurge category, but it isn’t quite a budget item either. Kind of a “tweener.” In terms of personality, it strikes just the right balance between stylish and “I-mean-business-dammit”.

We’d wear the suit with an ivory shell for a client meeting. It would also look great with lavender, light blue, turquoise, berry red, and magenta for other days. We would not suggest this suit for an interview since we tend to err on the side of ultra-conservative and wear solid-colored black or navy skirt suits for interviews (although this suit is sold with a skirt, its pin dot stripe pattern – subtle though it may be – is a little much for an interview in conservative fields like law). For shoes, we’d add a simple black round-toe or almond-toe pump (or, if comfort is no issue, go pointy-toed); if you know you aren’t having high-profile meetings and want to have a little more fun, wear the ivory shell with a very dark red Mary Jane pump for a pop of color and adventure! For jewelry, you can never go wrong with a strand of pearls and pearl studs for the office.

If you readers find pieces you’d like to see on our blog, feel free to send them to us at cornerofficechic@gmail.com.
